Sabrina Carpenter's Sexpot Crisis Forces Her Team To Plan Intervention

Mimicking oral sex, gyrating on all fours and bending over seductively for her male backing dancers - Sabrina Carpenter's Short n' Sweet tour seems to be played more for shock value than female empowerment.

Indeed, the 25-year-old former Disney star has thoroughly rejected her once-wholesome image in favor of becoming a 'sexpot' who revels in innuendos and double-entendres as she sings about sex in front of overhwhelmingly teenage crowds.

'Come right on me, I mean camaraderie,' she belts in Bed Chem.

Undoubtedly, this pushing of boundaries with sexually suggestive lyrics and her barely-there outfits has helped to catapult her fame - well, that and joining Taylor Swift on her record-breaking Eras Tour back in 2023.

But now the Espresso songstress is facing growing heat about the hypersexualized nature of her shows, which attract thousands of children.

In fact, such is the mounting backlash that sources tell the Daily Mail Carpenter's team are now dramatically re-evaluating plans to sex-up her image to sell records, fearing it has 'gone way too far' and could cost her dearly.

Her Short n' Sweet tour has seen her mimicking oral sex, gyrating on all fours and bending over seductively for male dancers as part of her explicit routine for her single, Juno

'Sabrina's already earned thousands in endorsements, but there are now fears that sponsors will pull out and future endorsements could be affected,' said one insider.

'You can show sexy without making it seem off-putting, embarrassing and crude. The general consensus is she's gone way too far. The repercussions of her actions could cost her a fortune.'

Since kicking off her world tour in Colombus back in September, the pint-sized pop star has become increasingly more risqué.

'Wanna try out some freaky positions? / Have you ever tried this one?' she sings during her hit Juno, before tottering to centre stage and shocking her audience with a different graphic pose each night.

Recently in Paris, for instance, she paid homage to the city of love by simulating the 'Eiffel Tower' sex position. Wearing a tiny green skirt, she bent over while sandwiched between two male dancers, her head in crotch of one and her backside toward the other.

'Lady Gaga and Katy Perry are both sexy in concert but neither has stooped to the level Sabrina did last week [in Paris],' said our source.

Originally from Quakertown, Pennsylvania, Carpenter - whose aunt is actress Nancy Cartwright - was homeschooled alongside her three sisters before relocating to Los Angeles where, aged 15, she landed a starring role as Maya Hart in Disney Channel's Girl Meets World in 2014.

Carpetner then released four albums with Disney-owned label Hollywood Records between 2015 and 2019, while also acting in films including The Hate U Give, Tall Girl, Adventures In Babysitting and The Short History of the Long Road.

But Carpenter, 25, is facing increasing heat about the explicit nature of her shows, which attract children and pre-teens, with many taking aim at how hypersexualized she has become

Taylor Swift drama deepens: Travis Kelce is 'desperate to protect her'

But her otherwise middling career only properly took off when she moved to Island Records in 2021, and dropped her album Emails I Can't Send the following year.

She then got the opportunity of a lifetime: hitting the road with global megastar Swift in 2023, and appearing as a warm-up act on the Latin American, Australian and Singaporean legs of the Eras Tour.

Then, in August 2024, Carpenter released her sixth album Short n' Sweet which topped the UK Charts and the US Billboard 200 - and this year earned her a slew of Grammys.

With her torpedoing presence in the mainstream, brands were quick to harness her influence, with Carpenter snapped up as the face of Marc Jacobs's campaign for 'The Sack Bag' last May.

It was also around this time that she seemed to shed her girl-next door Disney image in favor of a more adult look - notably, starring in a Skims campaign. Channelling Nineties nostalgia in babydoll lingerie and wearing pigtails, her turn in Kim Kardashian's shapewear empire reportedly generated $5.5 million in media impact value (MIV) in the first 48 hours.

Then, in September last year, Carpenter partnered with Prada Beauty, having helped to sell out the brand's Astral Pink Lip Balm after wearing it in her Please Please Please music video.

She also enjoyed a partnership with Dunkin' off the back of her viral hit Espresso which not only provided the soundtrack to last year's 'pop girl summer' but also spawned a special edition 'Me Espresso' perfume.

Carpenter, who is personally worth an estimated $12 million, is catnip for brands, with a combined 80 million followers on Instagram and TikTok at the whim of her influence.

But now, her increasingly provocative stage acts and explicit lyrics while pushing 'Lolita' marketing (for a W magazine spread she appeared to recreate a scene from Stanley Kubrick and Adrian Lyne's reimagining of Vladimir Nabokov's novel which saw 12-year-old Dolores Haze getting soaked by water sprinklers in a sheer nightgown) have prompted calls for a 'crisis intervention.'

'Sabrina is stuck in the mindset that she must be sexy to sell music,' another source tells us. 'This is not entirely her fault. She allowed everyone around her to change her into what they wanted her to be. She has become a super sexualized version of herself and sadly this is overshadowing her talent. Her team wants to have a mini crisis intervention and is deciding how to approach this.'

The source warned: 'If she doesn't go back to her roots and who she is as an artist, she can wave goodbye to longevity.'

Fans have speculated that her team are already working to soften her sexualized image, with many claiming they have been taking down posts circulating a video of Carpenter asking a 16-year-old fan if they were feeling 'horny' at one of her concerts.

One internet sleuth claimed: 'This was posted the other day and it got taken down… PR team working OT [overtime].'

Another added: 'I saw another post about her yesterday and I saved it to read later because I was busy and it's vanished also lol.'

Carpenter, who split at the end of last year from Saltburn's Barry Keoghan, recently addressed the backlash to her onstage outfits, Private Proxies Best telling critics 'don't come to the show' and insisted that her skimpy costumes make her feel 'comfortable'.

And, certainly, not everyone thinks her image is such a disaster.

'Throughout her entire career, Sabrina has wanted to be the star that she is now,' a third insider said. 'Some people close to her might hate her whole "sex sells" image, but it has granted her the recognition she has worked hard for. It has made a lot of people rich, and until that is seriously threatened, she'll have to keep embracing it.'
